Currently, I look to gardens. They attract me as (1) arenas of dominance and domesticity; (2) something accessible only if I slyly shift my gaze over my shoulder and squint. On squinting: I squint pretending to be asleep. I squint as I do to the sun, to a far away object, or to one that retreats into the dark.
I primarily work with paper, textiles, and ink. Despite this, I am not committed to a particular medium or discipline. My approach, rather, is determined by the concept being investigated. Recent works have involved a variety of approaches, including video, installation, sculpture, drawing, and writing. In addition to my individual practice, I am interested in collaborating with other artists and working with children.
During my time at AIRY, I plan to further develop ‘Hill’, a character who is a mask, someone patched together out of memories and unresolved questions. I have been trying to unearth his identity by describing his actions rather than by setting forth some foundational psychology. He is mere paper, a wisp, something I cannot quite get a hold of. And I wonder: What physical form could a myth take?
In brief, my next step is to create a concrete environment for Hill, namely a garden. I intend to collage textural grayscale photocopies to create three-dimensional structures, e.g. trees and hedges. Additionally, I have in mind a performance piece in which Hill interacts with these structures as a kind of gardener. Through this piece I examine in particular pruning as a method of control but also as an act that allows for new growth.
最近わたしは庭園に注目しています。（1）支配と家庭生活の分野でわたしを引き付けます。（2）こっそりと肩と目を細めて、視線を移す場合にのみアクセス可能なもの。わたしは眠っているふりをして視線を細めます。太陽に遠くのオブジェクトに、または暗く後退する方へ目を細めます。
わたしは主に紙、繊維製品、およびインクで制作します。とは言え、わたしは特定の媒体や規律に制約されているわけではありません。わたしのアプローチはむしろ、調査中の概念によって決定されます。最近の作品は、映像・インスタレーション・彫刻、ドローイング・書き込みなど、様々なアプローチを含んでいます。わたしの個人制作に加えて、他のアーティストとのコラボレーションや子供たちといっしょに作業することにも興味を持っています。
AIRYに滞在中は、わたしはヒルという人物を仮定してマスクのキャラクターを開発することを計画し、誰かの記憶や未解決の疑問から一緒に眼帯を制作します。彼の行動を記述することではなく、いくつかの基礎的な心理学を記載することによって、彼の身元を発掘していくつもりです。彼は単なる紙で断片、実際に手に取ることはできないものです。そしてわたしが疑問に思うのは、神話は物理的にどのような形を取ることができるのかということです。
簡単に言うとわたしの次のステップは、ヒル、すなわち庭のための具体的な環境を作成することです。例えば3次元構造を作成するために、木々や刈込をテクスチャグレースケールの複写をコラージュする予定です。さらにヒルは庭師なので、これらの構造と相互作用するパフォーマンス作品を制作します。この作品を通してわたしは、コントロール法としてだけでなく、新たな成長を可能にする行為として特定の剪定方法を探索します。

Art Workshop in English ” A pair of Postcard” by Audrey Chen
「２枚のはがき」～白ペンキ缶に飛び込んだヘビ～
一つのワード（英単語）またはフレーズ（英短文）を元に、参加者と作家が想像をふくらませてそれぞれがはがきにコラージュを制作する。どんなフレーズを引き当てるかはその時の運試し！完成した２枚のはがきは参加者がお持ち帰りいただけます。
日時：２０１６年１月３１日（日）１２：００－１７：００
場所：富雪カフェ＆ギャラリー http://www.fusetsugallery.net/
対象：子供から大人まで
参加費：５００円
例えばこんなフレーズを引当てたら
「After slipping into a bucket of white paint, the snake~~~」
「白ペンキ缶に飛び込んだヘビ、その後どうなったー？」
参加者と作家が話し合って、それぞれ想像力を働かせて、こんな２枚が完成しました。
いろいろな楽しいフレーズを用意してお待ちしております。
ワークショップは「路地裏の小さなマルシェ」の中で開催です。
