All of my work begins with ‘the Marks’ – drawings which I view as independent forms created with their own stories to tell. Behind my work is a lengthy process of research to identify the stories, places and ideas that ‘the Marks’ are seeking to share.
The resulting videos and installations aim to transport the viewer to uncomfortable places that sit somewhere between reality and invention, a world where multiple planes operate independently of each other.
This interplay of two-dimensional drawing and three-dimensional material creates a warped realism and focusing the viewers’ attention on the overarching theme of perceptions and modes of reality. Capturing these complexities, I attempt to digital the everyday noise into single frames, into a black and white simplicity. The flattened-down drawn on features of the characters, alongside the collage of dimensions, merge the visual language of comics, film and cinema.
わたしの制作のすべては「目印」ーそれぞれの物語によりかたち作られるドローイングから始まる。作品の背後には「目印」が物語・場所・アイデアを識別するための長いリサーチ過程があり、「目印」を共有しようとしている。
結果的にビデオやインスタレーションが、視聴者を現実と架空の間のどこか不快な場所へ連れていくことがねらいであり、世界は複数の場面が互いに独立して作動している。２次元ドローイングと３次元作品の相互作用は真実を歪め、視聴者の認識と現実のモードの包括的なテーマへと焦点を当てる。これらの複雑さを表わすために白黒でシンプルに、日常のノイズを一つのフレームでデジタル化を試みます。平面化された登場人物のドローイングは実寸のコラージュで、コミックや映画といった視覚的言語がミックスされています。
