初来日を果たしたカレンは、キャンバス・絵筆・絵の具など必要なものをすべて持参。
ロサンゼルスー成田ー山梨の長旅を癒す間もなく、ただちに制作にかかる。
年期の入った道具類を見るのはとても興味深いものです。
Karen broght every art tools that she needs canvas, brushes and colors from her own studio
and she began to work quickly even after a long trip of LA-Tokyo-Yamanashi.
It`s very much interesting to see the artist`s long term tools everytime!

Karen displayed her own name plate of calligraphy drawing to the entrance AIRY.

来日後に完成させた作品を公開。
参加者からの熱心な質問に答えるカレン
ロスでの普段の生活、日本に滞在したことの感想や,作品をつくり続ける人生について語った。
Karen opend her all artworks of painted at AIRY to the public.
She tried to answer all the questions from the participants of artist talk,
about her usual life in LA, how she felt the impressions of Yamanashi or the reason of life as an artist.
ワークショップ1
今回の滞在と作品制作のテーマは 「FINDING A WAY BETWEEN SPACES」
時と場所を飛び越えて、敢えて孤独な未知の状況に自分を置こうとする強い作家魂を感じる。
Karen`s theme of this residency and artworking is “FINDING A WAY BETWEEN SPACES”
She tries to jump over her usual time and space.
I can feel very strong artists-spirit from this theme that try to push herself into the unknown/lonly world.

身体的ハンドストロークの動作が反映された連続描画とともに
ゆるめのアクリル絵の具を滴らせて光の反射を描くのがカレンの作品の特徴。
Karen`s characteristic paintings are closely related to pattern paintings and more gestual work
and used thinner acrilic colors for the light reflected through layers paint.
