甲府市滞在中は３月９-１０日ワークショップ「私たちが風景である」（こうふのまちの小さな芸術祭in AIRY） を実施して、
人々・地域・できごとを結びつける提案と作業をすすめる。
４月６－１４日(ＳａｋｕｒａＴｗｉｌｉｇｈｔ２０１３)では、ワークショップ成果と自身の甲府での新作を発表する。

内容 自然環境に恵まれた甲府市で、人々と交流しながらコミュニティマップをつくる

作家と人々を結び付けるため、または対話を掘り起こすために、人間生活の日々の一片である自然物・人工物を持参してもらう。
それは、買い物リスト・写真・手紙・石ころ・羽など、生活のなかに存在する何気ないものであったり、人間の近くにある自然のものであったりする。
持参してもらったアイテムを元にして、地域の地理・歴史・環境などについて話し合う。
作家にとって初めて滞在する、山梨という自然の多様性を持つ地域について、ワークショップ参加者から助言をもらう。
人々と風景・都市景観をつなげながら、甲府という地域に作家が積極的に入り込み、刺激を受けながら滞在制作を行うことが目標である。
また、地域の人々にとっては、作家がどのような印象を受けて制作を行うかは大変興味がある。
相互交流をはかりながら、作業を進めていく。

「地図」とは、その人の指標であり象徴である。今回作家はｗｓ「やまなしコミュニティーマップ」つくりをとおして人々と知り合い、甲府（山梨）のイメージを広げていった。単にどこかへ移動するときに使う道具としての地図の存在を越えて、自分自身を表すための手段としての「地図」の存在を明らかにした。そして、ｗｓ参加者と持参した物を結びつけた「やまなしコミュニティーマップ」は、そこに住む私たち自身が風景であることを教えている。それは完成された一枚の地図ではなくて、作家と参加者・持参した物・場所が想像力で結ばれた地図であり、指標または象徴。自分自身が風景であることを示唆する作家の意図がここにある。だから「私たちが風景です」
A “map” is the person’s index and is a symbol. Artist pushes in ws “yamanashi community map” structure, and got to know each other’s people this time.
And the image of Kofu (Yamanashi) was extended. Existence of the map as a tool used when only moving to somewhere is. However, existence of the “map” as a means for expressing oneself was clarified. And the thing brought with ws participant was tied up.
“yamanashi community map” is teaching that we ourselves who live there are scenery. It is not one completed map. The thing and place of a participant and bringing carried out are the maps tied with imaginative power with an artist. It is an index or a symbol.
Here is an intention of the artist who suggests that we are scenery. Therefore “we are a landscape”

“In Residence” in English means Living or Belonging.
Artist in Residence Yamanashi (A.I.R.Y.) is a program that invites artists from Japan and abroad to live in the mountainous area of Yamanashi, making new work and new connections.
The residency program is focused on networking and community involvement rather than business, and aims to cultivate an environment for sharing ideas and different cultures.
Whilst at AIRY, artists are provided with accommodation, a space within the main gallery for use as a studio, and an exhibition at the final stage of their visit. They are also given support to run a workshop and network within the local community.
We allow the artist time for concentrating on their artwork, but also provide opportunities to experience Japanese culture through excursions to local farms, friend’s homes, live events, and many other activities.
As well as running the residency program, we are involved with other projects locally, nationally, and abroad.
We participate annually in the Kofu International Arts Festival and have connections with local farms and artist studios, which provide opportunities for dialogue between artists and the community.
The curatorial team of the gallery welcomes an interesting array of exhibitions from both local and International artists and offers artist talks and workshops.
AIRY is located in Kofu city, Yamanashi, and is 100 kilometers west of Tokyo, reachable by train (1.5 hours) or bus (2 hours).

産婦人科からアーティスト・イン・レジデンスへ
AIRY エアリー(Airtsit In Residence Yamanashi)の誕生

昔、甲府市内に個人経営の産婦人科医院があった。1970年代、日本は高度経済成長期でベビーブームの真っ只中、それは猫の手も借りたいほどの忙しさだったらしい。ところが時代はバブル景気を経て、不況の90年代へ突入する。その頃郊外化が一層進展したこともあって、甲府市中心部の人口は減少の一途を辿る。そして2000年を前にして同産婦人科医院は時代の波にさらわれ、閉院する。その後、医院はアパートに転用されたが、入居者は次第に減っていったという。そこでこの元産婦人科医院に目をつけたのが、甲府市内でアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（以下：AIR）活動に携わっていた坂本泉氏だ。坂本氏は同建物を借り受け、2009年春にAIR施設「エアリー（正式名称：Airtist In Residence Yamanashi）」を開設する。同時に坂本氏自身の個展「HOSPITAL → HOSPITALITY」を開催、産婦人科医院が息を吹き返した瞬間だった。
「エアリー」という語感からは、人を包み込む春風のような、柔らかいイメージを想起させる。AIRとは、国内外のアーティストに滞在制作の場を一定期間提供する活動である。現在エアリーには産院を改装した３つの部屋がアーティストのために用意されている。すなわち、アーティストは山梨甲府の生活を楽しみながら作品の制作に没頭することができるのだ。これまでにエアリーでは、アメリカ、フランス、フィンランド、オランダ、イギリス、モンゴル、キルギス、スウェーデン、ポルトガル、チリ、韓国、オーストラリア、カナダなどさまざまな国からアーティストを受け入れてきた。AIR活動はニューヨークの「P.S.1」やベルリンの「ベタニエン」などが有名で1960年代に欧米で活発化した。ベタニエンは廃業した病院を美術学生らが占拠してAIR化したものであり、エアリーとは共通項がある。しかし、日本ではまだAIRの数は少なく、山梨ではほとんど活動例がないのが現状だ。そこで坂本氏は「地方だからこそやるべきだと思った」と述べている。
ところで、山梨といえばワインや富士山、武田信玄などが有名。東京から近い地理的条件に加え、各方面の観光キャンペーンの効果などもあって、山梨を訪れる人は年間約4,700万人にのぼる。甲府名物「鳥もつ煮」が「B1グランプリ」を受賞して全国から注目を浴びたのも記憶に新しい。「鳥もつ煮」のようにローカルな事物が全国へ伝播する動きが加速しているが、坂本氏は「山梨は観光だけでなく幅広い関心を持たれたい」と述べている。アートの状況も同様で、アートが観光の一部として消費されがちだ。一方で、近年、アート・カフェなど個人発の文化発信の動きが甲府市内で増え始めているという。日本におけるAIR事業のほとんどが自治体が関与したものだが、エアリーは坂本氏個人による事業である。共通するのは自分たちの生活圏を見直そうとする意識。こうした先進的な意識を持った個人による活動によって、時代、そして地方が変わりつつある。
AIRの長所はアーティストや建築家などクリエイティビティを持つ人たちが、一定期間特定の地域に居住することによって、周辺住民との間に交流をもたらす点にある。その特性を生かしエアリーでは、展覧会のみならず滞在アーティストによるワークショップやアーティスト・トークを積極的に開催している。小中学校への「出張ワークショップ」や、甲府とキルギスの国際交流など新しいプログラムも進行中。活動を地域に向けて徹底的にオープンにする。坂本氏は、「アートをきっかけに自身を開いていってほしい」と、交流の効果に期待を寄せる。そしてエアリーばかりでなく、2010年からは甲府市内で「こうふのまちの芸術祭」が開催されるなど、甲府全体のアート・シーンも転機を迎えつつある。東京ではなく、地方の時代がすぐそこまで来ている。産婦人科からAIRへ、甲府から文化発信を続けるエアリーの活動からしばらく目が離せそうにない。(２０１２年）

AIRY (Artist In Residence Yamanashi)
Birth from obstetrics-and-gynecology hospital to an artist in residence
A long time ago, there was an obstetrics-and-gynecology hospital of private management in Kofu city.
Seemingly, in the 1970s, Japan was the middle of a baby boom, and busyness with it as busy as a bee in rapid economic growth.
However a time rushes into the 90s of depression through a bubble boom.
Since suburbanization progressed further at the time, reduction of the population of the Kofu city central part is enhanced.
Just before year 2000, the obstetrics-and-gynecology hospital is cleaned and closed on the wave of a time.
Then, although the hospital was diverted to the apartment, a tenant decreased gradually.
Then, Ms. Izumi Sakamoto engaged in artist-in-residence (following: AIR) activity in Kofu city fixed her eyes on this former obstetrics-and-gynecology hospital.
Sakamoto borrows the building and she established the AIR institution “AIRY(official name: Airtist In Residence Yamanashi)” in the spring of 2009.
Sakamoto solo exhibition “HOSPITAL->HOSPITALITY” was held simultaneously, and the obstetrics-and-gynecology hospital was the moment of having fetched one’s breath.
From the nuance “AIRY” a soft image like the spring breeze which wraps in people is reminded.
In AIR, it is the activity which makes certain fixed period offer of the place of stay work for an artist in and outside the country.
Three rooms which remodeled the maternity hospital are prepared for AIRY now for the artist.
That is an artist can be devoted to art work and enjoying the life of Yamanashi Kofu city.
By AIRY, the artist has so far been accepted from various countries, such as US, France, Holland, Finland, UK, Portugal, Australia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, South Korea, Sweden, Canada, Chile.
AIR activity was famous for “P. S.1″ of New York, “BETANIEN” of Berlin, etc., and they activated it in Europe and America in the 1960s.
Fine-arts students occupy and AIR the hospital which gave up its business, and “BETANIEN” has a least common denominator with AIRY.
However, in Japan, there are still few AIRs and the present condition is that there is almost no example of activity in Yamanashi.
Then Sakamoto says, “It should do just because it is rural areas.”
By the way, if it is called Yamanashi, wine, Mt. Fuji, Shingen Takeda, etc. are famous.
In addition to geographical conditions near from Tokyo, there are an effect of sightseeing campaign in every direction, etc., and those who visit Yamanashi reach in about 47 million people per year.
It is also fresh in memory that the Kofu city noted a dish “chicken stewed sugar & soysause” was awarded “B1 Grand Prix”, and captured the spotlight from the whole country.
Although the motion which things local spread to the whole country like a chicken dish is accelerating, Sakamoto says, “Yamanashi wants to hold not only sightseeing but a wide range of concern.”
The situation of an art is also the same and an art tends to be consumed as a part of sightseeing.
On the other hand, it is said that movement toward the cultural dispatch such as an art cafe or restaurant an individual is beginning to increase in Kofu in recent years.
Most AIRs in Japan are established by government though AIRY is run by private.
That it is common is consciousness which tries to improve its sphere of life.
A time and rural areas are changing by activity by an individual with such advanced consciousness.
The strong point of AIR is at the point of bringing about exchange among peripheral people, when people with creativity such as artist or architect, reside in the area of certain fixed period specification.
The characteristic is employed efficiently and the workshop and artist talk not only by an exhibition but a stay artist are positively held in AIRY.
New programs such as “art workshop delivery” to elementary and junior high schools and international exchange of Kofu are also advancing.
Activity is turned to the area and is thoroughly carried out to open.
Sakamoto has a hope for the effect of exchange by “I want you to open self taking advantage of an art.”
And not only AIRY but the art scene of whole Kofu — from 2010, “KOFU ART FESTIVAL” is held in Kofu city– is coming to a turning point.
Not Tokyo but the age of regionalism is coming to there immediately.
It does not let out of sight the activity of AIRY who continues Kofu city to cultural dispatch from obstetrics and gynecology to AIR for the time being.（２０１２）
