インスタントカメラ（ポラロイドカメラ）は温湿度や光に対して敏感で、現像すると思いもよらない効果を生むことが多くあります。それはデジタル映像に慣れた私たちの目には新鮮でもあります。妖怪（に見えるもの、を想像させるものなど）を夕暮れの境内でさがすワークショップ。１グループ（に一台のインスタントカメラを貸しだします。
作品は７月２０（土）２１日（日）開催されるエアリーでのニナ個展「妖怪ナウ」に展示されます。

Starting the workshop…Nina is part of The Impossible Project (http://www.the-impossible-project.com/about/), which continues to make Polaroid film despite the company no longer existing. She asked us to find and photograph yokai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yōkai) with the Polaroid cameras…we will see later to today what we captured.

まずはインスタントカメラの使い方講習から。かなりクラシックな本体に興味津々

境内は徐々に暗闇が迫ります。妖怪をさがしてあちこちウロウロ

撮り終えたら封筒に入れて徐々に現像するのがコツですよ～

６－７月滞在中のニナ・フォーラニ（フランス）による山梨でのプロジェクト「妖怪ナウ」滞在成果発表の詳細が決まりましたのでお知らせいたします。山梨で妖怪の調査をしてインスタント写真で表現するという当プロジェクトは、人々と出会って妖怪について語り合うという課程を経ていることが特徴です。山梨での二ヶ月間、約１４０名の小学生児童の協力を得た妖怪図鑑つくりや写真ワークショップを行いながら作家自身の妖怪のイメージを模索してきました。身近な妖怪、古くて新しい妖怪、ユーモラスな妖怪、信じる心を試されていような妖怪―「妖怪ナウ」は誰もがもつ素朴な疑問を引き出して、語り合わずにいられないという効果を生み出しました。アートの視線で妖怪を追いかけたニナに会いに来てください。

“Yokai Now is a photographic project held for 2 months during my residency
at AIRY – artist in residence in Yamanashi.
I have encountered the idea of Yokai for the first time in 2005 through an
exhibition at the Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris (japanese cultural
center in paris). I have seen some of theses fantastic creatures before in
Miyazaki‘s movie, without really knowing what they were. I was deeply
impressed by the diversity and how old were some of the scrolls and
drawings displayed. The humorous aspects of most of the Yokai depictions
struck me as well. I tried to learn more about Yokai after that. Some of
Shigeru Mizuki books are available in France, but not enough. I had to go
look for Yokai myself ! Yamanashi’s mountains and the green Kofu valley
appeared to me as the best place to lead this research.
At the center of this research, there are encounters with the people of
Kofu. The Yokai project first purpose is to meet japanese people and
exchange with them about their Yokai beliefs and stories. I had the chance
to held 2 workshops at the Maizuru Elementary School in Kofu. The first
workshop involved students from 1rst to 3rd grade during a 2 hours drawings
class. They were invited to draw their favorite Yokai and share their Yokai
stories with me. This workshop happened only 3 days after my arrival, it
was an amazing experience. The second workshop involved all the students
from the 4th grade to the 6th grade. Once again the goal was to gather
drawing and stories. There were invited to depict the Yokai environment,
habits, food. Over 140 student participated. The variety of depictions was
stunning.
This Yokai encyclopedia gathered informations about what is Yokai now for
children from age 6 to 11. In the Encyclopedia, each grade has a divided
section. In each section, Yokai are associated by categories : Yokai of the
nature and animals, monsters, Yokai with humans features and my favorite
household and domestic yokai.
This encyclopedia is the result of an amazing encounter. I don’t know if
all theses students believe in Yokai, but they played the game and shared
their stories. I am very thankful for that.
