We know that all matter is made of energy. Yet where does the energy go?

Kofu, like many smaller cities in the world, is losing its downtown as people gain cars, and move out to the suburbs, where big name department stores lure away customers. Small businesses, mom and pop owned stores and houses are abandoned. My oil paintings reflect the changing nature of Kofu City.

I created these works on the back of Hello Kitty plastic sheets for two reasons: Japanese of both sex and of all ages love Hello Kitty, and the businessman, Mr. Shintaro Tsuji, owner of Sanrio, and the Hello Kitty brand is from Yamanashi.

世界中の小さな街がそうであるように、車社会への移行と共に人々は市街地から郊外へ移りつつある。そこでは大資本の店舗が顧客をねらっているのだ。そして家族経営の小さな店や住居は見捨てられていく。

わたしの油彩画は甲府市の変化を反映したものである。

わたしは２つの理由から、ハローキティーのプラスティックシートの裏面に描きました。日本人は、性別や年齢を問わずにハローキティーが好きであること、もう一つはサンリオ社の社長である辻信太郎が山梨出身であることからです。
