I have just graduated from a graphic design education at Central Saint Martins in London. However, I would not call myself a graphic designer, but rather an image maker.I’m moving away from the traditional graphic design discipline in the sense that I avoid everything that has a set content that needs to be designed.I can conclude after these years in design education that it’s a very important part of my practice to set the content myself.Therefore I wouldn’t necessarily call myself an illustrator either, as that normally means working with an existing content.

Although I often use text and shape it in my work, it’s not just the mere design that gives me pleasure but the possibility to express my own ideas: that is the very core of my motivation.Luckily, the philosophy of Saint Martins’ education allowed me to break the rules of the traditional response to assignments and develop my image language.A continuous theme in my work is questions related to the human body and gender.Most of my work inhabits social criticism, but I prefer posing questions rather than providing some kind of answers (because I don’t have them).Humour, I believe, is one of my most important assets.These (three) years in London have reinforced my interest in social behavior related to culture.

Now I would like to immerse myself into one particular culture.My Japanese flatmate has made me fascinated with the Japanese ways of living, cultural values and aesthetics.Between my two foundation years (in 2010) I rented a studio space a creative collective called ’Detroit’ in Stocholm.It enabled me to test my independency.It gave me confidence to see that I did so well on my own, I discovered that a studio space among other artists allowed me to work on my own terms and still have the interaction, feedback and discussions I need to enjoy and get perspectives on my work.That was the ideal environment for my productivity. My practice is very dependent on physical hands-on processes.For me, the technique and material are an as important source of inspiration as the idea for the project.Lately I have worked with printing techniques such as etching and screen printing.I adore printing, but sometimes it dictates the possibilities and limits my choices in ways I don’t want.I would therefore like to take the opportunity during the month at AIRY to reduce the practical steps (required in printing) and focus more on the hand, the colours and the paper.My idea is to deepen into a relatively new technique to me: watercolour.

わたしはロンドンのセントマーチン大学グラフィックデザイン専攻を卒業したばかりですが、グラフィックデザイナーと言うよりはイメージメーカーと言うことができます。デザインする必要がある内容すべてのものを避けるという意味で、伝統的なグラフィックデザインの規律からは距離を置いています。そして必ずしも既存のコンテンツを操作する手段としてのイラストレーターと自分自身を呼ぶことはありません。

わたしは頻繁にテキストを使用し制作しますが、、それはわたしに単なる楽しげなデザインではなく、モチベーションの核心です。幸いなことにセントマーチンの教育哲学は、伝統的な従来のルールを破ることを許して、わたしがイメージの言語を開発することを可能にしました。わたしの仕事の継続的なテーマは、人間の身体とジェンダーに関する質問です。制作のほとんどは社会的な批判を扱いますが、質問に答えるよりは質問を提供することを好みます。（私はそれらを持っていないため）ユーモアそれはわたしが考えるの最も重要な資産の一つです。ロンドンで暮らしたこの3年に、文化に関する社会的行動への興味が強まりました。

しかし今は一つの特定の文化に身を浸したいと考えています。わたしのフラットの同居人（日本人）が、生活、文化的価値観や美意識で私を魅了したのです。2年間の基礎学部の間、わたしはストックホルムで「デトロイト」と呼ばれる創造的なスペースを借りましたが、それはわたしの自立性を試すことになりました。自分がしたことを確認することでわたしに自信を与え、他のアーティストとの供用スタジオスペースはさらに上の視点を得るために必要な相互作用を与えてくれました。そして自分の作品のなかで、フィードバックしたり議論を行うことが許可されていることを認識しました。制作を続けるための理想的な環境であり、物理的な実践のプロセスに大いに頼っています。わたしにとって技術や材料は、プロジェクトのアイデアに必要なインスピレーションの重要な源です。最近このようなエッチングおよびスクリーン印刷などの印刷技術を用いています。わたしは版画を多用しますが、時にはそれは可能性の範囲を示して選択肢を制限することがあり、エアリーでの一ヶ月は、色や紙など実践的な仕事に集中したいと思います。
