I adore the chance encounter and surprise of the found, unfamiliar and strange. I am fascinated with things that are seemingly out of place yet integrated into a larger environment, akin to candy-frosted rocks bordering a sidewalk. Basking in the resonance of the everyday, I appreciate the brevity, humour, and nostalgia in thingly representations.
Through paint and assorted materials, I toy with the subjectivity of the traditional and the absurd, the preconceived and the ridiculous, also the understood and the ambiguous.
I create occurrences that mirror diverse structures and quirks to which the self, cultures, and histories operate and also transcend.
私は馴染みのないものや奇妙なものとの偶然の出会いを大切に考えています。まだ大規模な環境に統合しない場違いなものや、まちの歩道の境界に置くキャンディー、つや消し岩などに魅了されています。日常的なもので、簡潔でユーモアがあり、そして懐かしさがあるものを高く評価しています。

「mountain mountain mountain」 solo show
A majestic view into the distance; a romantic image rendered in the imagination; delicious fruit farms; adventurous and enduring hikes soothed by cool crisp air; and an elevated state of being: in awe and at one with divine nature.
Yama or Mountains are a phenomenon highly revered by human beings. Mountains as part of art and culture assume symbols of human aspirations, aptitudes, and achievements. In the day-to-day, mountains are populated fertile landscapes that support human activity and provide essential sustenance to the locals.
yamayamayama is a solo exhibition of paintings created by Singaporean artist Adeleine Daysor, as part of a two months programme at AIRY (Artist in Residency Yamanashi), Japan. During her time in Kofu City, Adeleine spent time immersed in the “City of Mountains” observing and responding to relationships between the man-made and natural.
Adeleine’s art practice is invested in the myth of the everyday. Working with paints, objects, and installations, she attempts to encapsulate and highlight the essence, significances, and euphoria in daily routines and chance encounters.
yamayamayama is on show from from 22-29th July 2015 and is installed simultaneously across four café-galleries in Kofu-City: Akito Coffee, Fusetsu Café & Gallery, Hechima, and Terasaki Coffee. This project has been made possible through interactions with the local community, Artist in Residence Yamanashi (AIRY) and the Singapore International Foundation.
「やまやまやま」 個展
360度の壮大なる景色、想像力かき立てられるロマンティックなイメージ、甘い香り漂う果樹園、忍耐を要するが冒険のようなハイキングでは、冷たく乾いた風に心が満たされ、自然への畏怖と畏敬の念を抱いた。
山、−mountain とは見上げられ、崇められる存在である。芸術や文化の一部分であり、人間の願望、才能そして達成のシンボルともされている。山は、地元の人々の日々の暮らしに何か本質的なものや活力を与える、素晴らしい風景の一部である。
今回の「やまやまやま」は、シンガポール出身のアーティスト、アデレイン・デイソアが日本は山梨のAIRYに二ヶ月滞在した期間に制作されたものである。甲府で過ごす間に彼女は、“City of Mountains”「山に囲まれた町」として人と自然との関係がどう呼応し合っているのか観察し続けた。
アデレインのアートは、毎日の暮らしがいかに神秘的であるか発見させてくれる。絵画、オブジェ、そしてインスタレーションの制作を通して、彼女は、日常ごく当たり前の生活やそれを取り巻く出来事の本質、素晴らしさ、そして幸福感を凝縮し、光をあてる試みをしてきた。
「やまやまやま」の展示は、2015年7月22日から29日まで甲府のAKITO COFFEE、富雪ギャラリー、へちま、寺崎コーヒーの四カ所で同時に行われる。このプロジェクトで、甲府の人々とAIRY、そしてシンガポール・インターナショナル・ファンデーションの相互的な可能性を見いだす事ができた。

「Brevity and Gravity」 open studio with Kjersti
Two artists, Adeleine Daysor (Singapore) and Kjersti Sletteland (Norway/UK) unite in Brevity and Gravity to showcase artwork produced during their time at AIRY (Artist in Residency Yamanashi), Kofu City, Japan. The exhibition reflects contrasting creative processes and methods while highlighting complimentary visual forms and atmospheres.
Adeleine who works mainly with paints, objects, and their installations, delivers a site-responsive, succinct arrangement of paintings and prints that evokes a sense of idiosyncrasy, lightness and impermanence. Adeleine’s art practice is invested in the Everyday, adopting and mirroring diverse structures and quirks to which the selves, cultures, and histories operate and also transcend.
Kjersti is a sculptor who primarily works with traditional building materials interchanged with craft materials. Kjersti’s approach to her project in residency was labour-intensive and absorbed in the substance of concrete, producing a human size body-wall. Kjersti is interested in how humans react to our surroundings and her concerns are space and architecture, with their sculptural and textural impact. In this piece she deals with the relationship between body, sculpture, architecture and our surroundings.
While the characteristics in Adeleine’s and Kjersti’s creative approaches are distinct, both sets of work embody and embraced the inevitable force of place and time: Kofu City. In the make over two months, Adeleine’s oil paintings of found sculptures from the city are contemplative, simple and paired down. Kjersti’s massive body-shell, in contrast, grew quickly over a week and found a place in an urban park. The month-long project lives out its life installed in the gallery as an evolved form together with photographs.
Both artists present artwork inspired and influenced by Kofu’s overwhelming man-made and natural landscape, yet, one cannot also help but ponder on the hints of deep-seated humour that exists in the work.
「軽やかに重やかに」 シャースティとの合同展示
シンガポール出身のアデレイン・デイソルとノルウェイ出身、イギリス在住のシャースティ・スレトゥランド、日本は山梨県甲府市のAIRY滞在中に合同展示「Brevity + Gravity−軽やかに重やかに−」を開く。展示会では制作の過程と、目に見える物の形やその空気感にスポットを当てる彼女達の姿が見えてくるだろう。
アデレインは主にペイント、オブジェ、そしてそれらを使ったインスタレーションに取り組み、その場所にとけ込む、さりげないペイントや、はかなさ、軽やかさの特異性を引き出すような版画を表現する。彼女は日常の様々な構造物や偶然に出会うもの、文化や歴史、さらに超越したものの中にアートの実践を試みている。
シャースティは、伝統的な建物の原料をクラフト用に適合させた材料を使う彫刻家である。彼女のAIR滞在中での取り組みは、労力を要するものだが、コンクリートを取り入れた、等身大の人間サイズの彫刻を作り出すことである。人が周りの物にどう反応するのか興味を持ち、空間と建築の彫刻的、組織構造的な点に関心を抱いている。今回の作品で彼女は、人間の身体、彫刻、建築、そして日常の中にある物、との関係性を扱った。
アデレインとシャースティ、この二人の制作、取り組み方は全く異なるものではあるが、彼女達の作品は甲府市での時間と場所が強く反映され、含まれ、それが具体化されていることが共通している。二ヶ月の制作過程で、アデレインが、町の中で見つけた彫刻を描いた油絵は、静かで、簡素で、余計なものは削ぎ落とされている。一方、シャースティの大きな殻のような作品は対照的に、一週間という短期間に急成長し、都市の公園内に置かれた。彼女の一ヶ月の間のこのプロジェクトは、ギャラリー内で産声をあげ、今回は写真と同時に展示されることとなった。
二人のアーティストの今回の作品は、素晴らしい甲府での、人と自然とが作り上げた風景に刺激と影響を受けた。また、作品の中の奥深くに存在する人間性について沈思黙考する人も、いるのかもしれない。
