My practice is based on a curious need to re visit objects and materials of everyday life, looking for ways in which to de contextualize them and exploit their visual or formal properties. Through simple changes such as fragmentation and reorganization, I abstract the social significance of all of these elements to potentiate its aesthetic qualities.
My work proposes a purer relationship with the object, which tends to dilute the boundary between the traditional medias. Within this process I create a dialog between the bi-dimensional properties an image and the tri-dimension of objects, questioning the implications of how we relate to the contemporary everyday. Ambulating across the borders of of the hand made and the industrially made, the untouchable and the destroyable, art and the everyday.
Urban environments; cityscapes, architecture and the relationships that inhabitants develop with their surroundings are some of the main sources of inspiration for my practice. The visual and social aspects of the places in which I work dictate both the process and final outcome of the work. Often materializing within the permeable borders of painting, drawing, sculpture, installation and object.

私は絵画、彫刻、ビデオ/写真、アクション、インスタレーションからなる多様な制作を行う。 作品の素材としてはコンクリート、石膏、ビニール、鏡、テープ、紙やすり、金属、拾いものなどがあり、建築に興味があるので都市環境から生まれた建物廃材やスクラップ材料を使う。制作の過程と最終の表現は周囲の環境に導かれていると言えるだろう。
私は絵画と物体、アートとデザインの間の境界に興味がある。そして私の仕事は物体や日常生活の材料を文脈とする好奇心旺盛なニーズに基づいている。単純な断片化と再編成などにより、私はこれらの要素の社会的意義すべてを抽象化することでその美しさを増強する。
私の仕事は、従来の素材との間の境界を希釈する傾向にあるオブジェクトとのより純粋な関係を提案しています。 この課程により私は芸術、建築とデザインの間の対話を生み出すのです。

私の制作は好奇心旺盛なニーズに基づいて、日常生活の中の物体や素材の意味をもう一度問い直すことだ。それらをどのように文脈付けて、視覚的または本来の目標を探索するのかその方法をさがす。このように断片化や再編などの単純な変更を経て、抽象的なこれらの要素のすべての社会的意義は美的な質を増強する。
私の仕事は物体とのより純粋な関係を提案している。それは伝統的な素材との間の境界を希釈する傾向がある。このプロセスの中で、私たちは現代の生活に対してどのように関係するかの意味を問い、二次元画像と三次元物体の対話を創造する。そしてハンドメイドと工業製品、着手不可能と破壊可能、アートと日常の境界線を横断する。
都市環境―例えば都市の景観、建築、人間による周囲の開発は私の制作でインスピレーションの主たる情報源だ。プロセスと作業の最終的な結果の両方を規定する視覚的・社会的側面がある。絵画、ドローイング、彫刻、インスタレーション、オブジェクトなどの方法で境界線は浸透されてそれは具体化される。

1. Please tell me why you wanted to come to Japan.
I came to Japan in 2006 for the first time and stayed in Tokyo. I traveled around and found many interesting places and cultures. This time I was in Gunma for June-July to try one project, but it turned out to be impossible.
(This project is ongoing project. Oscar explained and showed some pictures he had done in Mexico. Take a look his previous works here.

He rearranged the inside of houses, or buildings using several of materials or found objects. He tried to do this at Japanese old houses but he couldn’t do)
１. なぜ日本に来ることになったのか、教えてください
ぼくが初めて日本に来たのは2006年、東京にいながら色々な所を旅しました。そして、日本や文化がおもしろいな、と思ったのです。今回は、6-7月は群馬県にいて、あるプロジェクトに取り組みたかったのですが、それは出来ないで終わりました。
（そのプロジェクトとは、オスカーが今でも関わっているもので、前にメキシコで取り組み、完成させた写真を見せて説明してくれました。家や建物の中を改装しますが、身近な所にある素材やオブジェを使いながら、建物内をガラッと変えていきます。彼はそれを日本家屋−日本の木造の家−でも試したかったのですが、できませんでした。）

2. So, do they have any themes or titles?
(Pointing at his art pieces on the floor)
Rearrangement is always important theme for me, and those are titled “trial, or unfinished”, not specific titles or names on them. I’m interested in the process of making or building things, or the structure behind paintings so, I don’t usually draw something.
2. あなたの作品には何かタイトルかテーマがありますか？
形を変えること、がいつも自分の中では大事なテーマです。この作品は、「試作、未完成」という名前かな。特に決まったタイトルがあるわけではないですよ。ぼくは何かをつくったり、建てたりする時のプロセスに興味があるので、例えば、何かの絵を描くというよりも、その絵を入れるためのフレームを作ったり、その後ろにあるもの、につい目がいってしまうのです。

3. What is your favorite custom in Japan?
Talking about AIRY, its peace is my favorite. This is a perfect place to think and work, I will have another exhibition in Dallas in February so this place and space is really good for thinking by myself.
The favorite custom in Japan? Cities are clean, people are polite, and they have strict codes. So I think I like the society and its function is great. I like Japanese architecture, contemporary art and history too. My favorite cities in Japan are Naoshima, Teshima, Kyoto and I’d like to visit Hokkaido one day.
3. 日本の好きなところ、習慣はありますか？
ここ、AIRYについて言えば、平和な雰囲気がすきです。考えたり描いたりするにはとてもいい場所で、２月にはダラスで展示会があるから、その準備をする為に一人で考える時間があってとても気に入っているよ。
日本の好きなところ・・？町がきれい、人々がとても礼儀正しい、そして規則正しいところかな。社会のしくみ、その土台になるものが日本はすばらしいと思うよ。また、日本の建築、芸術、そして歴史も好きだね。これまで行った場所で好きだった所は、直島、手島、京都、そして北海道にはいつか行ってみたいと思っているよ。
