accomplice  (2012)

The pink skirt hangs on the wall.

there are the ropes on both the sides of skirt and the handle is attached to the ropes. In addition there is an arrow which directs to pull downward that.

The hook that be attached to opposite side of the rope is catching under the skirt.

If the rope is pulled down with the handle, a skirt will be turned over slightly.

However, we cannot finish peeking in the skirt by pulling down only one of the rope

Though we cannot reach the rope that situated other side.

In order to peek inside of skirt perfectly(peek perfectly?), one more accomplice is needed.

I spent a few years learning how to paint. Painting is its own language, if you want to use it, then you better learn its grammar, its vocabulary, and it doesn’t hurt to know a few things about its history as well as its contemporary application. The deeper I got into painting, the more I got interested in images in general. Painting became a way to analyse how images are created, used, how they influence our sense of self, our memories, our desires. Images shape the way we view the world, our individual conceptions of reality. Images can easily blur distinctions between what we feel is real and what is fictional. Painting as a medium reflects on the underlying mechanisms of perception, as it is always a step away from a realistic representation of the world. Realism and illusionism in painting can be ruptured with a single brushstroke, and the process of making a painting requires so many decisions that the reality it depicts can only be a very short lived one.

I am becoming more and more interested in narratives. The starting point of my works is often in literature, films, or in art history, and I am developing a strong interest in visual narratives and how they differ from narratives in language. I am interested in how fiction can invade reality, how the structures in storytelling that we experience in images, literature, films, or even video games, can influence our perception of reality and our perception of ourselves. I want to analyse images as a whole through the medium of painting, but not see painting as something special and isolated because of its long history: Only when paintings are viewed in the context of other pictorial media, they can be discussed in a contemporary discourse. I believe that research into images and image-making can reveal elementary political and societal structures we are not

In the context of an exhibition, I’m interested in paintings as objects. Of course a painting can be absolutely fine hanging on a big white wall. But it can also be used in other ways, in can be built into a structure, it can be an object in the space, it can be one part of the larger whole of the exhibition. I have started incorporating different elements into my exhibition, such as large-format prints, texts, objects and architectural elements. They all work in a similar way the paintings do: they invent a new space, they relate to each other, they are fragments of a larger narrative.

AIRY artist in residence Titania Seidl (lives and works in Vienna, Austria) presents a body of work created in Kofu during her residence in April and May 2014. The exhibition will consist of oil paintings, small objects, modified furniture as well as an artist publication containing images and a short story. In the art works created during the past two months, Titania Seidl combines fragments of classical Western imagery with motifs from Japanese art history, such as design patterns, paintings on folding screens and the shapes of Japanese ceramics. The artist thereby creates components of a narrative dealing with the exchange of tradition, the shortcomings of language and the desire to communicate across space and time.

I’m a conceptual artist working with the relationship between the structures of our surroundings, and the perceptions of the individual. With a masters degree in landscape architecture, my background is that of an analyst and planner of urban and rural structures. This is the area I choose to explore further as an artist – looking beyond the physical structures and exploring the time, memory, distance and space within.

I am finding new ways of using the analytical tools of my profession, and by combining these with photography, painting, sculptures and collage, I aim to bring across the notion of “place” by creating mental maps derived from exploring, sensing and observing.

/

My work covers a variety of creative disciplines, primarily installation and photography.

The project I am focusing on at present, and that which I intend to develop further is one called Hanami. The name for the project comes from the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers – in most cases the cherry blossom in Spring.

Hanami transforms simple materials such as paper, foils, flowers and foliage to create unique and visually exciting installations and decorations that aim to create a point of focus in an event or space.  The work I make is largely inspired by flora, foliage and other natural objects that can be scavenged for in our natural landscape.  I often go on trips in the Scottish highlands to take photographs and collect objects as part of my research for creating Hanami arrangements.

I am interested in taking inspiration from often overlooked details from our natural world and their transient beauty and making objects and arrangements that are not only visually interesting but that occupy the space between the temporary and permanent and that evoke a sense of nostalgia and communal celebration.

/

Today I led my first workshop at a school in Yamanashi. Inspired by the quickly changing but beautiful Spring season here in Japan, the Hanami Haru workshop focused on the importance of transient beauty and where can it be found.
