I am an artist working in the field of architecture with an architectural background. I could also write that I am an architect working in architecture through art. I dwell on things we take for granted in the everyday. I like to dissect them and to categorise their components. My main interest is the relationship between space, material and body, outlined by the social relationships created.

In my work I try to distant myself from myself in order to map behaviour. I elaborate on the relationship between body, mind, material and space in a society. A body’s surrendering to expectations. I try to substantiate the non-surrendering, the normative defeat, and to experiment with the role of the body, as well as the role of the mind, to divid them and unit them.

私は建築学のバックグラウンドをもち、その分野で制作をしているので、

アートを通して建築というものを表現する者、とも言えるかもしれない。

普段の生活の中で見落とされがちなものに目が留まり、それらを成り立たせているもの、また分類することに興味がある。

しかし私の一番の興味は、空間、物質と身体、社会的に作り出された枠、それぞれの関係性にある。

作品づくりでは、習慣や行動のパターンを位置づけるために、自分自身を客観視するよう心掛けている。社会の中では、身体、精神、物質、空間との関係性をより深く追求したい、同時に身体の限界と可能性についても。また、何者の支配を受けないもの、規範的なものへの疑い、そして精神の働き方、それらを分けて再び融合させるのと同じように、身体的役割についての実験を具体化したいと思っている。

Workshop

I propose for Artist In Residency Yamanashi (AIRY), the project of a non-surrendering dining pavilion, where the space will be left unmastered, and instead commuted to. It will take its starting point in a fundamental ritual of a social gathering, the supper. The action of eating is especially intriguing because of its multiple purposes, where the supper possesses a role as an underlying cultural negotiator.

My work will begin by recording and mapping choreographies of eating a western sophisticated three course meal, and later compare that to Japanese high status eating rituals, one could say a study of two different cultures fine classes codes and behavior of eating. I will take in perspective, the bodies placement, the space used, tools and social etiquette.

These first steps will be done by methods of real action modern 1950’s millimetre by millimetre measuring, as well as literal studies, internet research and workshops.

My process will be interactive, and invite people from the outside, known and unknown, from the

neighbourhood and other places to discuss and to dine. The collected maps will lay base for and translated into and experimented with in a responsive wooden construction, where ‘who you are’ and ‘how you behave’ will be reflected in the space.

A large amount of time will be used to develop the right construction, with a long line of prototypes, like a collection of sculptural objects.

The final wooden construction will be a dining pavilion, and hopefully frequently used. I imagine it to be in the size frame of 5-10 square metres where I will, organise and invite for supper, exploration and discussions on the origins of norms.

AIRY滞在中、その空間が権力下に置かれず、何の支配をも受けない「食卓」というプロジェクトを提案したいと考えている。その為に基本的、儀式的な社会的集まりである「夕食」をスタートとしたい。様々な意味を持つ「食べる」という行為はとても興味深いもので、夕食とは、文化的な交渉という役割を含んだものだと考えている。

私の制作は、西洋では洗練された三度の食事をとる様子、仕草を記録、調査することから始まり、後で質の高い日本の食文化と比較してみたいと考えている。その両方の異なる文化を比較することで、ぞれぞれの階級のコードや、食事をする際の行動パターンなどが分かるだろう。人々の居る場所、使われている空間、道具やエチケットなどについての見解も取り入れていきたいと思う。

この始めの一歩となる制作は、1950年代のミリメートルバイ　ミリメートルという方法論に基づいていて、概念の勉強はもとより、ネットでのリサーチ、そしてワークショップも含まれる。このプロセスは一方的なものでなく、知人、友人問わず、近所、地域、外部から人を招いて話し合いの場を持ち、共に食事をとろうとするものである。収集された記録は、日本語に訳されて、実験的に木で作られたスペース（あずまや）に展示され、「誰であるか」「どう振る舞うか」反映される。多くの時間は、このあずまやの設営に費やされるであろうし、それは彫刻品を集めるかのごとく、集めた物の原型がずらりと並ぶだろう。

最終的に、そのあずまやは食卓となり、うまくいけば皆に使ってもらいたい。大きさは5ー10㎡くらいで、そこで私は夕食会、調査、話し合い、を設けたい。

南アルプス市内の古民家にてヨナハンセンさんの滞在とプライベートワークショップが行われました。

6日(1日目)

この日は、９日に行われる”遊美っこ「ヨナとあそぼう！」”ワークショップの試作づくりとプランニングをしました。
お日様がギラギラ照りつける炎天下の中、ヨナさんと中込ゆうさんはほのぼのとワークショップの進行を打ち合わせました。

午後、プライベートワークショップをする南アルプス市内の古民家に到着。家主との挨拶。
養蚕をしていた家屋は玄関に入ると奥まで見渡せる細長い部屋が二つ。
その奥に掘りコタツのある部屋。台所。壁の色と同化した張り紙。
日本の古民家は人間が生活するためにもっとも機能を備えてると実感できる作りになっています。

美味しいご飯をご馳走になり、日本酒で交流はさらに深まります。
カチ、カチ、カチ、ボーン、ボーン、ボーンと柱時計の音がこの家を見守ってきた黒い柱とかやぶき屋根に響きます。

7日(２日目)
この日、ヨナさんは用意していただいたガレージのアトリエでワークショップとオープンスタジオに向けての構想を練っていたようです。
※この日は筆者が立ち会えずレポートが書けませんでした。

おばあちゃんは、畑の野菜や稲の苗への水やりに余念がありません。

この日は古民家のオーナーとFUMOTOのスタッフを交えたプライベートワークショップを行いました。
ワークショップの準備とヨナから古民家のオーナーへのお礼の食事会もありました。
